I've been reading through this tribe and I'm a little confused about what program is the best to back up DVDs. I've been using DVD X Copy, but it doesn't always work. I keep getting error messages right at the end.
It sounds like DVD Shrink is my best bet?

Re: Best back up program
Tue, March 22, 2005 - 7:45 PMI love DVD Shrink. I've rarely had any problems with it and my discs are almost always flawless. It's also quite easy to use, which is a huge plus. -

Re: Best back up program
Tue, March 22, 2005 - 10:01 PMDo you have a URL for DVD Shrink?
I have used DVD Fab, which comes from the same guys that did DVD Region Free... I love DVD Region Free... DVD Fab is OK. Strange GUI, a bit disturbing, but is more or less does the job.
I''m interested in exploring alternatives.

Re: Best back up program
Thu, March 24, 2005 - 2:04 PMAs a reminder, there won't be any new versions of DVD Shrink coming down the pike, this build is apparently it. But the newest version of DVD Decrypter came out this week.

Re: Best back up program
Wed, March 23, 2005 - 7:17 AMI used to have problems using DVD Shrink exclusively, but now I use DVD Decrypter to do the ripping and writing and DVD Shrink to do the encoding. That setup works like a charm for me. -

Re: Best back up program
Wed, March 23, 2005 - 9:18 AMYeah, I backed up a couple last night and that combination works great!
I just wish there was someplace to download .iso files so that I could continue to practise backing up. ;)

Same here! I played around with a few people using CuteFTP and trying to download some iso's overnight, but nothing consistent. -

Re: Best back up program
Wed, March 23, 2005 - 4:02 PMSo the CuteFTP thing didn't work? That sucks. Were the files just too big? -
-
Re: Best back up program
Wed, March 23, 2005 - 5:17 PMCuteFTP worked, but a hiccup on either end when you're a gig deep into the download would piss me off. Maybe I just need to deal with people who have better connections to the net! :) -

Re: Best back up program
Thu, April 7, 2005 - 11:15 AMOnce the DL media prices come down, DVD Shrink will become obsolete...UNLESS the blue ray becomes more mainstream. -

Re: Best back up program
Thu, April 7, 2005 - 11:20 AM"DVD Shrink will become obsolete"
It's already obsolete in one way...there will be no new versions of it. Taking the encoding out of the equation will be nice, though, but until those damn DL discs start getting cheaper, I'm gonna keep on doing what I do. :) -

Wed, April 20, 2005 - 6:18 PMDVD Decrypter and Clone DVD 2
I love how with clone dvd i can see all the content i decide to keep or not write onto the dvd. i can even leave out chapters if i wanted to (maybe to cut out the credits to allow for those jobs that need just that slight touch of extra space?).
it's cool i how you all rave over DVD Shrink. is it really worth checking out? i mean, with what i use, the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind.

Heck, if your stuff is playing, then continue to dance with the girl who brung ya. I've never run Clone DVD through its paces beyond tinkering with it last year, I am kind of curious to use it again, actually. -

Re: Best back up program
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 10:28 AMDVD Shrink has always worked flawlessly for me, but I do keep DVD Decrypter on the side for troublesome discs. Shop4Tech.com has awesome prices on DVD media. I buy a 100 pk of the Sonic brand and have never had any bad media issues. Shipping is free too. -
