I don't know about MAC but on a PC if you use ANYDVD and Dvd Decrypter and a DL disc you can just read to a ISO file and write the iso to a DL Disc

"I've never burnt a DL either...... " Now I don't feel so bad! The price is the big turn off for me as well, and I am too used to compressing, although a free, easy one to one copy alternative would be pretty sweet. Does anything out there easily support that now?

I have a DL burner too but the discs are so expensive I just go with the compression.. I've never burnt a DL either......

the new powerbooks come with dual layer burners. drool drool ... but soon enough that won't be enough, and we'll want bluray or hidef dvd, which ever format wins ...

I think the latest, or a fairly recent version of Mac the Ripper, has added functions that I think allow you to do this. From what it looks like, without actually testing it, you might want to try splitting the movie in Mac the Ripper (e.g. selecting only a certain title/chapter set). Of course, the other option is bypassing dvd2oneX and getting a dual layer dvd burner (which have gone way down in price), I picked one up for under $150, though the blank media are still more expensive than the single layer 4.blah gb discs.

i am encountering limitations with dvd2oneX -- like you can't select both angles of video, and such. i wonder if there is an app out there that lets you take a whole submenu and attendant tracks. that would be great.

i have used DVD2oneX and found the results very lossy looking. i think that was shrinking from around 7 gb. i used it once to shrink from about 5 gb and that was okay, but anything larger and it seems like it's going to look like shit.

For PC you can use two free programs.. One called DVD Decrypter to rip the dual layer or single layer disc to your Hard Drive and then DVD Shrink to shrink it from your Hard Drive and then burn it to a DVD

so since i posted just a few minutes ago, i've downloaded and got a full version of DVD2oneX. hopefully it will show me the way, but my question still stands from before about programs that do the double layer shrinking for you. uh...yeah

it's been a little bit since i've checked back here. since then, i've downloaded mactheripper and have gotten a copy of dragon burn. i have a friend who said he would hook up a copy of toast, but i still think i would need a shrinking device. i think someone told me that popcont or toast with jelly does shrinking. i'll see if i can get a copy of dvd2onex...i'l try at least. anyone know how a burning program can "shrink" the dual layer onto a regular dvd?? is this something new i wasn't aware about, or it is something that can only be done with mac and not xp? inquiring minds want to know.

I rip and burn with my powerbook. Mactheripper for ripping, DVD2oneX for shrinking and Roxio Toast for burning. Mactheripper is free at www.ripdifferent.com and DVD2oneX and Toast are not. Some people like the all-in-one thing and use Roxio Popcorn... It rips, shrinks and burns. I don't like it because with DVD2oneX, you can specify which audio tracks you actually want to keep and so on (why keep the spanish and french tracks if you ain't ever gonna use them?). I've only had a few problem movies but most work just fine.
